A Practice in Light and Death
Zayaan Khan’s recent solo exhibition presented by POOL, A Practice In Light and Death, explores death as a space of imagination and transformation. Viewing death as a collective experience, the exhibition connects physical and transcendent realms, challenging rigid boundaries and fostering humility. Grieving the traumas of colonialism and ecocide, the exhibition bears witness to these injustices and art making as method of healing and making offerings. Using cyanotype printing, the exhibition honours life and death through salts in many mineral forms.
This exhibition was made possible through the generous support of the City of Cape Town, Field Station, and the National Arts Council SA Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme.
